Multi Twisted Strand Necklace
Sometimes you need a simple, yet interesting necklace to complete your office casual wardrobe. Pendants and big chunky jewelry don’t always work in the office, and it can get boring wearing simple chains, pearls, and other classic pieces all the time. This necklace works to bridge the gap between fun and colorful and work wardrobe ready. You can use as many or as few colors in it as you like, and make as many strands as you would like as well.
The end result is a glittering, tasteful necklace that is filled with interest and color, but that is nice enough to wear to the office every day. If your workplace is a little more relaxed, feel free to have some fun with this design, working in several different sizes of beads, as well as several different color and strands. For more sedate work places, just stick to a single color and limit the number of strands that you use.
What you’ll need:
•Large container of seed beads, either a single color or a multi-color pack
•Beading thread and needle
•Crimp beads
•Toggle clasp
•Pliers
What you’ll do:
1.Determine how big you’d like the necklace to be. Roughly five strands will give you a necklace approximately 1-inch in diameter, but you can use more or fewer strands to vary the different looks.
2.Cut as many pieces of thread as you want your necklace to have strands. Each piece of thread should measure roughly 10-inches in length.
3.Tie a knot at the end of each one of the threads.
4.Begin placing seed beads on the threads. Seed beads are very small beads, and even those that come in solid colors will have some variation in color and size of bead. This is OK, and will lend some additional interest to the finished piece. If you are using multi-color seed beads, be sure to grab them at random to mix them evenly throughout the piece.
5.Completely cover each one of the threads with beads, leaving about 1-inch free at the end of each thread.
6.Gather up the strands in one hand and clip off their knots.
7.Slide a crimp bead over the strands, leaving it very close to the top.
8.Pass the ends of the thread through one end of a toggle clasp and back into the crimp bead, keeping the crimp as close to the toggle as you can. This will leave some space between the seed beads and the crimp.
9.Pinch the crimp closed with your pliers.
10.Turn the bead strands upside down and hold them by the knots so that the beads slide down against the crimp bead on the other end.
11.Hold tightly to the threads with one hand while you twist the beads around each other several times with your free hand. When you reach the desired amount of twists, slide a crimp bead over the loose threads, this time pushing it up tightly against the seed beads.
12.Pass the end of the threads through the other side of the toggle clasp and back into the crimp bead, pulling the loose ends very tight so that the crimp bead and clasp are right up against the seed beads on both ends of the necklace.
